STEP 1

reflection

Think about the previous year or time period. Answer these questions in bullet points or sentences, whatever works for you!

What worked in terms of productivity? How did you successfully (or not) motivate yourself?

If you had any goals, did you achieve them? Why or why not?

How happy were you?

What brought you joy?

What drained you?

What did you accomplish? What are you proud of yourself for?

STEP 2

brainstorm (the fun part!)

Think big. Give into your dreams for a moment. What would your absolute dream life look like?

What kind of person do you want to be? (I know this is a big question haha. Try listing actions your ideal self would do and then tie them to traits. For example, my ideal self would do her homework as soon as she came home from school —> I want to be disciplined.)

What sort of energy do you want to bring into the new period? (joyful, peaceful, finding more fun, etc)

What does your dream daily routine look like? (optional, but helpful)

STEP 3

the goals

It’s time to condense what you’ve reflected and dreamed into actionable targets.

options:

  1. Word of the year/time period

This is what I’ve been doing since 2021. You pick one word that encapsulates what you want to work on or be; mine have been confident, detachment and authenticity (I cheated and chose two), and peace. I prefer this to normal resolutions because it’s a mantra I can repeat to myself and feels more like a mindset shift than just separate and individual habits I want to force into my life (which is what I know New Year’s resolutions can feel like for a lot of people).

What word(s) did you choose for Step 2’s dream energy?

What dream trait(s) did you choose for Step 2’s?

What drained you (see Step 1)? How could you minimize this dRaiNaGe?

What’s a word that has been on your mind lately, or something that feels just out of reach?

If you’re struggling, try searching up “word of the year ideas” and find something that speaks to you. :)

  1. Traditional resolutions

These can absolutely work too! You could also pick a word to focus on and habits that will get you there.

What actions would your dream self do (see Step 2)?

What was holding you back from happiness this past period?

Best of luck, and you’ve got this <3
